OUR STORY
Sea Harvest Australia started life as Nor-West Seafoods, which began prawn trawling in 1962 with two prawn trawlers. Prawns were processed on land in the early days, whereas processing is all done on board the vessels now.
In 1990, Shark Bay was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Area, exports were booming, with Asia and Europe eagerly demanding these valuable products.
In 2015, Nor-West Seafoods was sold to Mareterram Limited, a public listed company who also bought the Craig Mostyn Food Service division. Sea Harvest always had strong historical dealings with Craig Mostyn, so investing in Mareterram was a natural progression.
With time, Sea Harvest Group became the sole shareholder and changed the company name to Sea Harvest in 2019. They expanded fishing operations to the Kimberley, Pilbara and Gascoyne regions of Western Australia, fishing for Banana prawns and Spanish Mackerel.
In 2022, the MG Kailis fishing operation in the Exmouth Gulf was acquired, adding a further 6 vessels to the prawn fishing fleet and 2 fish trawl vessels operating in the Pilbara. The MG Kailis Group was founded by the late Michael Kailis and his wife, Patricia Kailis, in 1962.
Today Sea Harvest boasts 11 prawn vessels, 10 of Shark Bay’s 18 licenses and all the Exmouth Prawn fishing licenses.
With the acquisition of MG Kailis came the Marine Engineering division, a marine engineering specialist with more than 50 years’ experience. In addition to maintaining its own fleet, the engineering staff provide services to commercial clients including Boiler Making and Fabrication; Fitting and Machining; Shipwright; Refrigeration; Electrical; Corrosion Control (Blasting and Painting); Fuel and Lubricants.
SEA HARVEST FISHING is the largest owner operator in the Shark Bay Prawn Managed Fishery and the sole owner operator in the Exmouth Prawn Managed Fishery. Sea Harvest also catch and process scallops, blue swimmer crabs, Spanish Mackerel and premium fish from its Pilbara fish trawl operations.
SEA HARVEST TRADING manages the sales and distribution of the wild caught fisheries product from Shark Bay, Exmouth, Pilbara and Kimberley. It is also the agent for other premium food brands including from Sea Harvest South Africa, Clarebout potato products and Royal Greenland fish.
SEA HARVEST MARINE was acquired by Sea Harvest in 2022 and is responsible for refitting and maintaining the fleet of prawn trawl and fishing vessels. It also provides ship repair and maintenance to external customers. Services include boiler making, fabrication, fitting, shipwright, refrigeration, electrical, supply of fuels and lubricants.
